ROCHESTER - Rochester officials announced today that the city will open a cooling station at City Hall to provide residents respite from expected extreme heat.
The City Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, the city's pools will be open both days. The Hanson Pines pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, while the East Rochester and Gonic pools will be open from noon to 4 p.m. both days.
"This weekend will be extraordinarily hot, so I encourage all of our residents to take steps to stay cool and safe," City Manager Blaine Cox said. "Anyone who thinks they need a break from the heat should take advantage of the chance to visit the cooling station or one of the pools."
The National Weather Service is expecting temperatures to reach into the high 90s this weekend in Rochester.
