City auto recycler, driver cited in I-295 mishap

PORTLAND, Maine - Maine State Police have cited a Rochester, N.H., recycling firm and its driver following a wreck on Interstate 295 in Portland near Tukey's Bridge this morning.

In the incident, three crushed cars fell off a trailer and onto the highway.

No other motorists were involved, but several had to swerve to avoid colliding with the debris.

Troopers said 15 crushed cars were being delivered to a Topsham recycling plant when a cable broke on the trailer, sending three of the cars into two of the four lanes of the northbound lanes. The crash took place at 7:30 a.m. during morning commute, and the two lanes were closed for an hour and 15 minutes.

Receiving summonses for defective load securement were Lambert's Auto and Truck Recyclers of Rochester, and the driver, Jason Fisher, 30, of Rochester.

The three cars that fell onto the road were towed off. Fisher was able to safely secure the remaining 12 cars and continued on his way to Topsham to deliver his load.
