City dog licenses expire April 30; rabies clinic set for May 2

ROCHESTER - Rochester dog licenses expire on April 30, so current dog owners should renew their licenses prior to the expiration date. It can be done online or in person.

New dogs and puppies must be registered within two weeks of their rabies vaccination. Veterinarians are required by law to notify the City Clerk's Office of all rabies vaccinations administered. Visit the City's website for more information on licensing requirements and fees.

Additionally, the City will host a Rabies Clinic on May 2 from noon-2 p.m. at the Rochester Ice Arena, 63 Lowell St.

The cost is $25 per animal (cash only). The clinic is open to both dogs and cats, and no appointment is required. The event is open to all, including Maine residents. Pets must be on a leash or in a carrier at all times.

A one-year rabies vaccination will be available to all animals. A three-year rabies vaccination requires proof of prior vaccination.

City staff will be on site to issue dog licenses for Rochester residents, with regular licensing fees applying. If you were unable to renew your dog license in April because of an expired rabies vaccine, no late fee will be charged for same-day dog licensing at the Rabies Clinic.
