City fire victim rushed to Boston hospital after being rescued by firefighters

ROCHESTER - A fire in a multi-unit building on Dustin Homestead left one victim with serious injury in a Boston hospital.

Rochester Fire responded around 5:25 a.m. on Sunday for a report of fire at 9 Dustin Homestead.

A Rochester Police officer was first to arrive on scene and reported visible smoke coming from the structure. They also advised dispatch that an occupant was still inside.

Upon arrival fire crews forced entry and found an unconscious victim who was removed by firefighters who given aid till Frisbie Memorial Hospital EMS arrived. The patient, who was not identified, was initially transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and later to a hospital in Massachusetts.

The fire originated in the basement, according to fire officials.

No other units in the building were affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rochester Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office, in collaboration with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office. Preliminary reports suggest the cause was accidental and not suspicious at this time, officials say.
