DOVER - A 22-year-old Rochester man is facing up to 35 years in jail for allegedly strangling his girlfriend twice in one day and pointing an AK-47 at her to boot.

According to court documents, Jarred D. Bartlett, 22, of 48 Royal Cres MHP, "engaged in the strangulation of (the victim, an intimate partner) when Bartlett did apply pressure to (the victim's) neck and/or throat, causing ... impeded breathing and/or impeded blood circulation" twice on Feb. 6

In addition, the indictment reads that Bartlett "placed (the victim) in fear of imminent bodily injury ... in that Bartlett did point an AK-47 at her."

Both strangulation charges are Class B felonies punishable by up to seven years apiece, while the criminal threatening with the AK-47 is a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in state prison.

The April grand jury indictments were released to the public last week.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
