DOVER - A Rochester man found not guilty at his robbery trial last month didn't fare as well today as he was sentenced to a year in jail on five charges of duty to report as a sex offender.

Edward Davis, 57, who formerly resided at 46 South Main St., Apt. 303, but currently incarcerated at Strafford County Jail, is supposed to register as a Tier II sex offender at least twice a year but had not for some time, the last time registering in Rochester.

"He had been out of Rochester for some time," said Assistant County Attorney Emily Conant, who prosecuted both cases.

Six months of Davis' 12-month sentence were suspended as part of a plea agreement, and with six months of pretrial credit, he is expected to be released from custody shortly, Conant added.

He will, however, remain on probation for two years.

His robbery trial just last month saw him acquitted after jurors deliberated for just a couple of hours.
