City manager announces 4th of July celebration will include fireworks display

ROCHESTER - Rochester's 4th of July fireworks display will return this year after a one year hiatus due to COVID-19.
Rochester City Manager Blaine Cox made the announcement during Tuesday night's inperson selectmen's meeting held for the first time in the Community Room of the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center.
Cox said the fireworks extravaganza will be held on July 3 at the Community Center just like in 2019.
Last year's celebration was called off in May after weeks of discussion and exploration of multiple scenarios.
Initially there was a plan to try to hold a celebration last fall or winter but that did not materialize as the pandemic wore on.
Tuesday night's meeting in the Community Room was the first inperson meeting since they went remote last during the pandemic.

Some councilor opted to continue attending remotely from home, including Donna Bogan, Pete Lachapelle and Jeremy Hutchinson. Tom Abbott was excused.
