DOVER - A Rochester transient and alleged serial shoplifter has been indicted on three Class B felony counts of theft by unauthorized taking.

Stacy L. Barrett, 45, formerly of Kennebec Drive, Lebanon, Maine, faces up 21 years on the theft charges and up to another seven for allegedly delivering or having in her possession a quantity of meth while a prisoner at Strafford County Jail in February.

The theft charges are in connection with incidents at Hannaford in April, Walmart in May and Walgreens in June.

Such thefts are normally a misdemeanor, but since Barrett had been previously been twice convicted of such thefts, the new charges were elevated to felonies.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on Sept. 18 and released on Wednesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
