Dollar General to become Lebanon's first franchise retailer

LEBANON - For the first time ever, a franchise retail store will be located in Lebanon.

A Dollar General is currently under construction just east of Farmfield Greenhouses on Route 202, also known as Carl Broggi Highway.

While Lebanon code enforcement officer Mike Beaulieu was able to confirm Dollar General's construction was under way, no opening date was available.

Dollar General, which operates some 12,500 stores nationwide, has recently delved more and more into rural locations that don't produce the consumer numbers to warrant most general merchandise retailers.

The store is known for stocking brand name items along with off-brand and closeouts on the same shelf.

A Dollar General recently opened up in downtown Milton and is developing a steadily growing customer base. It sells everything from an extensive food section to beer, frozen foods, household goods, pet food, and clothing.

While Rochester has no Dollar Generals they are served by a Dollar Tree and two Family Dollars.

Dollar General corporate offices in Goodletttsville, Tenn., did not return a phone call for this story.
