CONCORD - A Dover man has been arrested in the death of a retired Hudson Police sergeant who was struck while riding her bike on Route 125 in Kingston on Tuesday.

Craig Sprowl, 45, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash at the Motel 6 in Portsmouth.

Donna Briggs, 59, of Derry, had been biking as she trained for an upcoming police ride.

Police say they began looking for Briggs around 8:30 p.m. and found her while searching the area along Route 125 southbound near New Boston Road, where they found the bicycle and the rider down an embankment off the shoulder of Route 125. Briggs was pronounced deceased on scene.

Based upon evidence it appeared that Briggs had been struck from behind by a motor vehicle traveling southbound, which then left the scene, police said. Video from nearby businesses and other footage helped to identify the vehicle, which has damage to the front passenger side.

The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. police say.

Sprowl was charged in Rockingham Superior Court with negligent homicide, conduct after an accident.

His wife, Angela Sprowl, 30, was also arrested at the hotel on a charge of hindering a police investigation.
