ROCHESTER - A Dover man was seriously injured today when the car he was driving was struck by a cargo truck on Rochester Hill Road.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in the area of Continental Boulevard when 27-year-old Josiah Davies of Dover was traveling south in a Ford Focus when he crossed the centerline into the northbound lane colliding with a Kenworth T370 cargo truck operated by Raymond Bishop, 67 of Strafford who was traveling north, police say.

Davies was initially trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated before being transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for what were described as serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.

Bishop was uninjured.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The airbags in Davies' vehicle deployed, however his seat belt use is still being investigated.

The portion of Rochester Hill Road between Continental Boulevard and Tebbetts Road was closed for some two hours while Davies was extricated, the collision was investigated and the vehicles were removed.
