ROCHESTER - A Dover motorcyclist was killed and his female passenger severely injured on Monday after his Harley Davidson veered off Gonic Road and struck a guardrail, throwing both riders from the bike.

The tragic Labor Day accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the area of the Rochester Country Club.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located several passers-by tending to two people on the side of Route 125, just south of the Rochester Country Club. Further up the road in the northbound lane of travel was a motorcycle on its side.

After a brief investigation including witness statements police learned that a 1990 Harley Davidson XLH 883 Sportster was traveling south on Route 125 when it started to veer off the roadway and struck the guardrail.

Both the operator and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle and the motorcycle continued up the road before falling down in the opposite lane of travel.

The motorcycle was being operated by Christopher Lapointe, 40, of 10 Mount Vernon St. He was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His passenger, Liana Rinaldi, 40, also of 10 Mount Vernon St, was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital and treated for what were described as possibly serious but not life threatening, injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets.

Police shut down the road between Gear Road and Church Street for a short time while emergency personnel tended to the injured parties.

The Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team responded to further investigate the accident. Route 125 between Church St and Gonic Road remained closed until around 10:30 p.m.
