Dover Police: No foul play suspected in elderly woman's death alongside road

DOVER - Dover Police continue to investigate the death of an elderly woman found alongside Spur Road Sunday morning.

The woman's body was found in the area of New Bellamy Lane around 5:25. She was taken by Dover Fire and Rescue to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Dover Police Department's Special Investigation Unit, the DPD's Crime Scene Unit, the DPD's Accident Reconstruction Team, and an Assistant Deputy Medical Examiner responded both to the hospital and to the scene of the death. As a result of that investigation, it was determined the woman was not struck by a vehicle, either before or after she died.

The investigation continues as to the cause and manner of death, however; at this time there does not appear to be any indication of criminal activity connected to this event.

An autopsy will be performed in the coming days.
