ROCHESTER - Dr. Peter M. Ejarque, 87, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Hyder House hospice, surrounded by family. A well known and respected physician and father from Rochester and Durham, N.H, Ejarque was known for starting Frisbie Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU), saving many lives and inspiring four sons.
Ejarque graduated from the University of Barcelona medical school with highest honors in 1954. He excelled in anatomy and biochemistry and was awarded a U.S. Senate 'Fullbright' scholarship to come to America for medical research at Harvard and NE Deaconess Hospital.
In 1965 Ejarque came to Rochester to join Frisbie Hospital where he became Chairman of the Medical Department. Ejarque's practice was in internal medicine, with specialties in heart disease and diabetes. Upon retiring, Ejarque started The Governor's Inn in Rochester, with two of his sons, in the historic home that housed his practice. Dr. Ejarque especially loved nature, working in the woods, and his family.
Ejarque is survived by his wife Elisabeth Wagemans Ejarque; his sons Peter, Herman, Anthony and Raymond; four grandchildren; his sister Maria Rosa in Spain, her sons Pedro and Dr. Josep Soto Ejarque and their families.

In tribute to his passion for education and healing people, a scholarship fund has been setup in Dr. Ejarque's honor to help those who wish to pursue a career in health care. The scholarship will be administered through Rochester Rotary Club Charities, which is accepting donations of any amount at www.RochesterNHrotary.org.
