Eagle Scout's project seeks to rejuvenate neglected burial site

MILTON - On Sunday a Milton Boy Scout turned the function hall at the Milton Moose into a fund-raiser for his Eagle Project aimed at beautifying a neglected town burial site.

Spencer Ricker of Troop #155 said the burial site has been abandoned and hasn't been maintained for nearly 10 years.

"People can't get in there to visit graves without wading through shrubs and bushes and around trees," he said Sunday while overseeing an afternoon burrito buffet that included all the fixings imaginable.

Ricker added that the graveyard was about 150 years old and that several veterans were buried there as well.

"We're trying to make it look attractive," he said.

Helping Ricker out at the buffet table were Ben Berry, Adam Boch and David Bloser, whose Eagle Scout project was refinishing the upstairs floor at the historic Milton Free Public Library in Milton Mills a year ago.

Ricker said he'd be doing the maintenance and beautification work on the cemetery grounds and its entrance in the next month or so when the ground gets soft.
