Elsie May Bernier, Boston Post Cane holder, dies at 102

LEBANON - Elsie Mae Bernier, 102, of 411 Upper Guinea Rd. died Saturday Sept. 10, 2016, at her home with family by her side after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Haverhill, N.H., the daughter of Earl and Lillian (Hartley) Goodwin. She has resided in this area most of her life previously living in Laconia. Elsie retired from the Bell Shop in Rochester. She especially enjoyed watching her sons play baseball.
The widow of Samuel Bernier who died in 1983, she is survived by sons, Samuel L. Bernier, Jr. and wife Nancy of Lebanon, Maine, William L. Bernier and wife Donna of Lebanon, Maine; daughter, Lillian J. Guyer of Epsom and her late husband Harold who died in 2009; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Charlene Bernier of Cornish, Maine; sister-in-law, Helen Goodwin of Laconia; and several nieces and nephews.
Elsie was predeceased by her son, Earl "Snooky" Bernier and siblings, Ernie Goodwin, Walter Goodwin, and Georgianna Goodwin.

On Sept. 2, 2014, Elsie was awarded Lebanon's Boston Post Cane as the town's oldest living resident.
