DOVER, N.H. - A former Rochester man has been indicted in a domestic violence case in which he is alleged to have strangled, hit and kicked a female victim and repeatedly struck a child under the age of 13 in January.

Joshua Lavenets, 45, with a last known address of the Strafford County House of Correction, faces a dozen indictments in connection with a Jan. 3 incident on Jackson Street in Rochester.

Lavenets faces four felony counts: two second-degree assault charges for allegedly impeding the female victim's breathing, one for holding her against her will (kidnapping) and one for allegedly asking her not to call police (witness tampering).

All of the felony counts are Class B crimes, with three and a half to seven-year prison terms apiece.

Lavenets also faces an enhanced penalty misdemeanor charge for allegedly striking the child under 13 multiple times in the head and face the same day. That charge carries a 2-5 year prison term.

He also is charged with five misdemeanor simple assault charges for allegedly hitting the female victim in the eye area, the face, the teeth, shoving her to the floor and kicking her.

In addition, Laventes faces two misdemeanor counts of obstructing report of a crime for allegedly keeping her from calling police.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on April 16 and released on Tuesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.
