Faulty brakes blamed in fatal crash as motorcycles collide on I-95

SIDNEY, Maine - One motorcyclist is dead and another injured in a collision police believe was caused due to brake malfunction.

State Troopers got involved around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a crash involving two motorcycles on I-95 northbound at mile marker 120 in Sidney.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2006 Harley Davidson, operated by 61-year-old Adam Robinson of Sangerville and a 2008 Harley Davidson, operated by 28-year-old Jayson Lancaster of Carmel were traveling together in the northbound lane, according a press release from the Dept. of Public Safety received on Sunday.

After passing another vehicle both motorcycles merged back into the right lane, during which Robinson's motorcycle appeared to have a mechanical defect which caused the brakes to seize, causing him to be ejected from the bike. Robinson was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lancaster who was operating in close proximity to Robinson was unable to avoid the crash and was also ejected from his motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
