Feds to take over Rochester teen's OD death case

Jazzmyn Rood, Mark Ross ... both remain in jail on high bail

DOVER, N.H. - Federal prosecutors are taking over the case against a mother whose teenage daughter died in October of a fentanyl-laced heroin overdose while in her company at a Rochester motel.

While arguing against a recent motion filed by a public defender representing Jazzmyn Rood, 41, of Rochester, the mother of Eve Tarmey, the Spaulding High senior who died Oct. 17, Strafford County Assistant Attorney Tim Sullivan noted that the U.S. Attorney's Office had indicated its intention to prosecute the case and that all requests for discovery should be sent their way.

The feds are also expected to prosecute the other two defendants in the case, Leslie Aberle, 31, of Salisbury, Mass.; and Mark Ross, 41, of the Riviera Motel, Rochester, who worked as a paid informant for the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Ross and Aberle, 31, remain in jail on $50,000 and $25,000 cash bail, respectively, both charged with felony conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled drug, felony tampering with witnesses and informants and dispensing controlled drug, death resulting, which carries a prison term of up to life.

Whether federal prosecutors would amend or change the charges is unknown.

The next hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Monday at Strafford County Superior Court.
