Feds trial in teen's OD case begins in April

CONCORD, N.H. - The mom and two others charged in the overdose death of a Spaulding High School senior last fall will stand trial in federal court in April.

Jazzmyn Rood and Mark Ross, both of Rochester, and Leslie Aberle, of Salisbury, Mass., are all charged in the death of 17-year-old Eve Tarmey who died of acute fentanyl poisoning inside a Riviera Motel room the morning of Oct. 17.

Rood's federal charges include concealing knowledge and providing false information to police about the drug's distribution in the death of Tarmey, her daughter.

Ross, who is Rood's boyfriend, and Aberle, who traveled with Ross and Tarmey to Massachusetts to buy heroin, are charged with giving Tarmey a drug that caused her death.

Ross told police he thought he had bought heroin, not fentanyl.

The cases originated in state court before being transferred last month to federal court.

Ironically, Ross was working as a paid DEA informant at the time of Tarmey's death, according to court records. He collected some $2,000 during a 17-month relationship, which didn't end till several days after Tarmey's death.

Ross and Aberle face 20 years to life if convicted in federal court, while Rood could face up to three years.

All three defendants are being held on no bail awaiting trial.
