ROCHESTER - A police response to a reported fight behind the former Mel Flanagan's Irish pub on Friday yielded a felony arrest from an alleged theft at Home Depot in January.

Rochester Police were first called to the Wyandotte Falls area around 11:35 a.m. for a reported fight involving multiple people duking it out and yelling.

Once peace was restored with no arrests due to the fisticuffs, police learned that one of the individuals involved had a bench warrant out of Strafford County Superior Court on a theft by unauthorized taking charge.

Shaun Laws, 27, a city transient, was taken into custody and transported to Strafford County Jail where he was arrested on the charge on Sunday. He'll be arraigned today.

The theft charge, a felony, is in connection with a Jan. 26 incident in which Laws allegedly tried to steal DeWalt tools from the Rochester Home Depot.

As he was in the process of allegedly pilfering the items, store employees told him to stop, with one employee actually able to knock the tools from Laws as he was running out, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said today.
