Firefighters in Milton, Rochester battle season's first brush fires

©Firefighters in Rochester and Milton battled brush fires today that both broke out a little after 2:30 p.m.

In Milton, fire crews responded at 2:37 to a half acre brush fire in deep woods about an eighth of a mile behind 95 Charles St.

When firefighters arrived, they were able to gain access via a logging road and got a single line from the forestry truck quickly onto the fire, Milton Fire and Rescue Capt. Jarrod Wheeler said.

About eight firefighters responded to the fire, which was put out in about 10 minutes, Wheeler added.

Crews remained on hand till about 3:15 p.m. putting out hot spots and making sure it didn't reignite.

Meanwhile in Rochester, a brush fire extended into a residence outbuilding in which there was at least one injury, according to Northeast Fire Alerts.

Rochester Fire, dealing with multiple calls for service, was unable to immediately comment.

The blazes signal the start of what could be a long brush fire season.
