Gilford teenager identified as officer-involved shooting victim

GILFORD - A !7-year-old Gilford teen has been identified as the victim of a police-involved shooting on New Year's Day in Gilford.
The Attorney Generals Office on Tuesday announced that Mischa Fay was shot when two Gilford Police officers responded to 5 Varney Point Road for a report of a resident armed with a knife around 9:50 p.m.
As the officers encountered Fay inside the home, one officer discharged an electronic taser and a second officer discharged their firearm.
Fay was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. After an autopsy that was performed on Tuesday, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie V. Duval determined that Fay's cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Pursuant to protocol, the names of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews. The initial responding officers did have body cameras.
The circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.
