ROCHESTER - A Gonic man wanted on a pair of charges by Rochester Police was arrested on Saturday after he apparently pulled into the South Main Street Monster Gas parking lot late at night, hit the hazards and went to sleep.

Victor Manuel Tirado, 45, of 17 Indian Brook Circle, Apt. #67, was found sleeping in his car when an officer checked on it because the hazard lights were on around 2:45 a.m.

Tirado was found to have two warrants out on him, one for conduct after an accident and another for theft.

The conduct after an accident charge was in connection with an accident on Sept. 24 when police say he was driving a U-Haul truck on North Main Street and pulled out of a side street in front of another motorist colliding with them. Police say Tirado initially stopped but then took off in the U-Haul truck without providing his information to the other driver. Through an investigation it was learned that Tirado was the operator of the U-Haul on that day.

The theft charge stemmed from a Nov. 19 incident in which an officer investigated a stolen cell phone taken from the Revolution Taproom & Grill. Surveillance video helped to identify Tirado as the suspect.

Both charges are Class B misdemeanors.

Tirado was bailed on personal recognizance pending an arraignment next month.
