Gonic suspect in infant assault has arraignment hearing

DOVER - A Gonic man waived arraignment on Wednesday in connection with his alleged assault of an infant child.

Ryan Hughes, 23, of 67 Ledgeview Drive, Gonic, is charged with first-degree assault for allegedly recklessly causing serious bodily injury to the four-month-old girl.

The infant suffered a broken collarbone. Hughes turned himself in to police on July 22 shortly after hearing there was a warrant for his arrest.

The incident occurred on July 12, with Rochester Police responding to Frisbie Memorial Hospital along with the state Division of Children Youth and Families.

The Class B felony is punishable by up to seven years in state prison.

Hughes remains free on personal recognizance.
