CORNISH, Maine - Three Good Samaritans along with Cornish firefighters saved the life of a woman whose car went off the road, struck a tree and burst into flame on Monday.

The fiery crash occurred around noon in the town of Limington when Janet Heggeman, 63, of Standish, was driving a 2013 Buick Lacrosse in the area of 458 Ossipee Trail (Route 25) west when she lost control and went off the roadway striking a tree head on. The crash caused Heggeman's vehicle to catch fire just over a steep embankment with Heggeman trapped inside.

That's when the three unnamed Good Samaritans and the Cornish Fire Department assisted Heggeman in exiting the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.

Heggeman suffered what were described as extensive, although nonlife-threatening injuries. She was transported to Maine Medical Center. Her condition was not known as of Monday evening.
