ROCHESTER - The Rochester Historical Society Museum on Hanson Street will welcome Steve Woodman who will present a talk on "Settler's Cabins" Oct. 13, at 7 p.m.

As the first settlers moved into what became Maine and New Hampshire, they built temporary structures or camps, until they could establish a more permanent residence. Woodman will tell about the structures they built, the tools they used, how they cleared the land and then established a permanent home in the wilderness.

Woodman is a lifelong resident of Lebanon, Maine. He has a bachelor's American history from the University of Southern Maine and has written a number of chapters on Lebanon history.

He has gathered a lot of information about the local area and its earliest history. Some of this information was passed down from his mother through family history.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
