Illegal immigrant living in Somersworth accused of being felon in possession

WOMERSWORTH - An illegal immigrant from Laos living in Somersworth was indicted on Thursday on charges he unlawfully was in possession of a firearm.

Vongpasith Khamvongsa, 45, a Laotian national, is accused of being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm,to the U.S. Attorney's Office District of New Hampshire.

The charging statute provides a sentence of no greater than 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Somersworth Police Department led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen is prosecuting the case.

This effort is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
