AUGUSTA, Maine - The picture of a Maine State Trooper in Dallas to attend services for five officers fatally shot 10 days ago with his arms around a Texas woman who wanted to thank him for his service has gone viral here in Maine.

The picture of Trooper Chris Hashey and the unidentified woman, who stood in 100-plus degree heat for hours to thank the trooper, had more than 83 shares as of today after being posted on Saturday on the Maine State Police Headquarters Facebook page.

Hashey along with other troopers traveled to Dallas to help celebrate and memorialize the sacrifices made by all the officers killed and injured by a lone gunman shortly after a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest ended on July 7.

Hashey, who received a meritorious award for saving the life of a man who suffered a heart attack in Milford in 2015, was there under the auspices of the Maine State Police Troopers Association, who funded the trip.
