CONCORD - Governor Chris Sununu today announced that New Hampshire along with six other northeast states will be suspending interstate competitions for public and private schools and youth hockey effective Saturday.

The suspension will be in effect till at least Dec 3.

The decision was made in concert with the governors of New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

"Given the support for this agreement from our regional neighbors, New Hampshire made the practical decision to join this effort," Gov. Sununu said. "We remain optimistic that our newly issued hockey and ice arena guidance will continue to ensure a safe and successful hockey season for New Hampshire hockey players."

The prohibition will not impact interstate collegiate, professional, or U.S. national team hockey activities, which will remain subject to existing health and safety protocols and/or restrictions.

As public health data continues to evolve, the states will reassess the need for continued restrictions on interstate sports activities.
