ROCHESTER - Janice I. Smith, 79, died peacefully in her home on Friday April 22, 2022 (Earth Day) with her loving family by her side. She was born March 28, 1943 in Stow, Maine, the daughter of Kenneth "Buster" and Dorothy (Walker) Smith.
Janice was a registered nurse at Concord State Hospital for 32 years in Geriatric Physc and in Medical Surgical. She was Co-Director of the Share Fund for 20 years where she also volunteered at the soup kitchen, Gerry's Food Pantry, and the community clothing shop. She worked in the Floral Department of the Rochester Fair for many years. Conservation land was so important to Janice that she volunteered for the Strafford County Conservation District and various co-ops. She was a member of the Rochester Elks where she enjoyed many dinners and meat raffles.
Janice was very devoted to her faith. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish where she was a member of St. Anne Sodality, social committee, and volunteered for many groups. She was an avid gardener. She loved to be working outside with nature. The more time she spent in nature barefoot the better, singing to her plants and taking care of her many pets. She had a great love for her family which was everything to her. She really enjoyed playing games and spending a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and baking.
She is predeceased by her brother David and lifelong friend Norma Berube. She is survived by her brothers George, Donald, and Kenneth Smith, and her two sisters Judy VanMetre, Frances Planchette. Her nephews and nieces: Robin, Kelly, Sandy, Shana, Jennifer, Patrick, Nicole, Debra, Wendy, David, Donald, Glenda, Beth, Michael, Christopher, Jeffrey, Anette, Kenneth, Todd, Richard, Suzanne, Catherine, Lynne, Josh, Bri, Brian, Kathy, Steve, Jen, Buffy, Steph, Mike, Janet, Mikey, Denis, Robin, and Nicolette. Along with a multitude of grand, great grand, and great great grand nephews and nieces.
