ROCHESTER - For anybody who doesn't think they'd enjoy sushi, Mike Lin has two words for you: spicy tuna.

Lin, who opened up a Japanese steakhouse in Rochester recently, says even those who think they may have an aversion to eating raw fish are surprised when they taste his spicy tuna and find they enjoy its taste and texture.

But there's plenty more than sushi to enjoy at the A1 Japanese Steakhouse at 300 North Main St. There's teriyaki- or hibachi-styled steak, fish and poultry, a large selection of cooked rolls and sashimi, raw fish cut into thin slices.

All the dishes are inspired by a dashi influence, of staple of broth making among Japanese dishes, Lin says.

There's also plenty of exotic adult beverages here, too, including drink specials like Mai Tais, Pina Coladas, Head Hunters and Scorpion Bowls as well as authentic Japanese beer - Kirin Ichiban - which is made with relatively little gluten (20 ppm).

There's also a Japanese plum wine, and of course, Sake.

A1 Japanese Steakhouse is located in the same mini-mall with Domino's near the intersection of Ten Rod Road.

Lin said the restaurant is pretty much a family affair and that customers will find the eatery both "casual and friendly."
