John DeVoter ... enjoyed bird watching, gardening; at 74

LEE - John W. DeVoter, 74, of Lee, died on Dec. 29, 2022, at Exeter Hospital.

He was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Laurel, Md., and was one of eight children. He graduated Lansdowne High School in 1967 and was a member of Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department. He honorably served his country in the Air Force for 20 years with two tours in Vietnam. After he retired from the Air Force he volunteered with the Lee Fire Department for over 20 years.

Thanks to his time in the Air Force he was able to do a lot of traveling. While stationed abroad he was able to travel to Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. During his four years stationed in England he and his wife spent a lot of time exploring the country. In the United States he was stationed in Mississippi, Delaware, Texas, Illinois and finally New Hampshire where he retired. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed fishing and gardening in his free time.

He is predeceased by father, Joseph DeVoter; mother, Pauline Dwyer; brother, Douglas DeVoter; sisters Barbara Rose Ridgway and Joan Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cheryl DeVoter; daughter, Rebecca Brown and her husband, Michael Brown; brothers, Joseph DeVoter, Steve DeVoter and Mark DeVoter; sister Mabel "Cookie" Marr.

Services will be held at a later date.
