ROCHESTER - Joseph Aloysius Churchwell Jr, 78, of Rochester, died peacefully at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, December 23, 2014, with loved ones by his side.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on December 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph Churchwell and Mary Helen Scianti.

Joe was a renaissance man, and lived an adventurous life. He loved to tell his stories of the events that took place and people he met throughout his lifetime.

He worked many years running his own auto recon business; he loved cars and keeping them shiny.

He and his loving wife Margaret lived the majority of their lives in Portsmouth, until recently moving to Rochester.

Joe is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Joseph Churchwell III, Thomas Churchwell, daughter Lylah Starkey and son-in-law Keith Starkey.

He was predeceased by his sister Helen Churchwell Legotti.
