DOVER - Karen Skonberg Moore, 71, beloved wife of Richard S. Moore, 114 Silver Street, died at home May 18 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born June 22, 1950, in Wentworth, and had resided in Dover most of her life.

Her parents were the late Ruth Stadig Skonberg Glidden and Theodore Skonberg, and stepfather Robert Glidden. Karen graduated from Dover High School, class of 1968, and attended UNH before heading to Hawaii.

Karen returned to New Hampshire and worked as a florist before becoming the proud Mom of Tyler and Trevor Moore. An avid horse person, she continued riding into her 70s. Her gardens were admired by many, and her encyclopedic knowledge of plants helped her friends in their gardens. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, loved her dog Sally (and many before) and was noted for her Kentucky Derby and Sister parties.

She and her husband recently celebrated 41 years of marriage. They loved watching their grandchildren's sports events and Karen always brought goodies when she cared for them. They owned several boats and loved to sail and play golf, but Karen's best time was in her garden.

Survivors include her husband; son Tyler, his wife Susan, and grandchildren Noah, Luke, and Dylan, Portsmouth; son Trevor, his wife Cristin, and grandson Odinn, Molokai, Hawaii; siblings Edward and Debi Ashenden, FL, Christina and Daniel Reel, Banks, Ore., Wayne and Rita Glidden, Concord, Leah and Timothy Sweeney, Sandown, Nancy and Skip Bailey, Dover, Ellen Skonberg, Littleton, Diana and Kevin Bascom, Langdon, Jane and Andrew Kelsall, North Walpole, numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves a sister-in-law and her husband, Nancy and Jeff Schulte, and their daughter, Elizabeth. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lylah Moore.

Karen volunteered for almost 20 years with the UNH Therapeutic Riding Program, and it is the family's wishes that donations in her memory may be made to the UNH Therapeutic Riding Program, care of Cindy Burke, Equine Center, 278 Mast Road Extension, Durham, NH 03824-3590.
