Kathleen Cope Hersom Best, 93, of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada (formerly of Rochester, New Hampshire) passed away on January 4, 2019 at Lochlomond Village in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada after a period of failing health.

She was born on August 11, 1925 in Bear River, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Louis Peters and Charlotte Mccumber Peters. She attended school in Nova Scotia. She married her first husband Dan and they had five children, Rita, Edward, Dianne, Duane and David. In 1963 she married her second husband, Herb Hersom, who died in 1976. Shortly after she moved to St. John New Brunswick, Canada where she met and married her third husband, Owen Best, who died in 2008.

Shortly after Owen's death she moved into Lochlomond Village where she resided for the remainder of her life, where she was well taken care of and considered the staff her family, and they in turn lovingly cared for her and made sure she had everything she needed since her family was in the United States.

Kay organized a singing group at Lochlomond Village called "Kay and the Golden Girls" and every Sunday they would meet and sing all their favorite songs to anyone that was willing to listen. She loved country music, telling people of her Indian heritage, of which she was very proud, and most of all talking about her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was so proud. In her younger years she made numerous trips to New Hampshire, driving all the way in one day, to visit her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She loved going out to eat and singing along to her country music on the radio. She was a very fun-loving person who had a great sense of human, enjoyed life and could make anyone smile. She had a very strong catholic faith. She was very proud of having seven sets of five-generations in her family and made sure everyone knew.

She leaves behind her loving family, daughter Dianne M. Leary, of Farmington, New Hampshire, son David P. Cope and wife Julie of Rochester, New Hampshire, daughter-n-law Judith Cope, of Middleton, New Hampshire, brother Leo Peters and wife Marie of West Phal, Nova Scotia; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren and nieces of nephews in Canada. She was predeceased by daughter Rita Casavant, son Edward Cope and son Duane Cope.

She also leaves behind her "family" at Lochlomond Village, adopted granddaughter Kelli Whitman and husband Larry and two daughters of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. She also leaves behind a special cousin, Pam, of St. John, New Brunswick.
