MILTON - Kirby E. L. Flanagan Jr., 62, of Milton, loving son, brother and uncle, died on Thursday, May 16, 2024, after a brief illness. Kirby was the son of the late Kirby Sr. and Donna (Curran) Flanagan.

Kirby was a graduate of Spaulding High School Class of 1980 and attended Plymouth State College. While at Spaulding he was a four-year member of the baseball team where he excelled as a pitcher. Due to the tremendous amount of movement on his breaking ball, he earned the nickname Kirby "Curveball". He was the recipient of the John Hartigan SHS Most Valuable Player award during his senior year.

Kirby's fondest memories of growing up in Rochester consisted of great times at the Bowl-away lanes including winning multiple state doubles championships with Kevin, playing little league at the Commons, Babe Ruth at Keay field, and Red Raiders baseball.

Kirby was employed for the past 23 years with the United States Postal Service. He also assisted his Father and Grandfather for close to 40 years at the Donna Flanagan Building calling bingo games and selling lucky 7 tickets to benefit local charities. The charitable gaming industry was a big part of his life, and he would also work for his Grandparents selling lucky 7's at the Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg, Maine. After his grandparents' passing, Kirby established a memorial tribute which was celebrated after the 1st horse race every year at the fair. This became a tradition, and this past year was the 25th anniversary of the "Ed and Anita Flanagan" Memorial. Sadly, through the years, many more Flanagan names were added to the presentation blanket. This year Kirby's name will be added as well. Kevin will make sure to continue this tradition to honor Kirby.

Kirby was predeceased by his parents, Kirby Sr. and Donna (Curran) Flanagan,

Kirby is survived by his brothers Kevin and Shawn and his sister Kathy, her partner Garrett Stover; nephews, Kyle Flanagan, Cory Flanagan, Tommy Flanagan and Matty Flanagan.
