ROCHESTER - A Lebanon man has been arrested in a Rochester road rage incident in which he allegedly punched and bit the victim.

The incident unfolded as police responded to a reported fight at the Milton Road Shell on April 1. The altercation appeared to be road rage related, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim, a 23-year-old male, also from Lebanon, Maine, was traveling on Milton Road when he advised he was being tailgated. He pulled into the Shell and had stopped at one of the pumps when Alexander J. Cavallaro, 47, came up to his vehicle and punched and bit him, according to police. Cavallaro, of 127 Indian Lake Drive, also tore the victim's sweatshirt, police say.

Cavallaro turned himself into police on Monday when he learned a warrant for his arrest had been issued. He is charged with two counts of simple assault and criminal mischief for tearing the alleged victim's sweatshirt.

The simple assaults are Class A misdemeanors, which can carry up to a 12-month jail term.

Cavallaro was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail with an arraignment date set for next month.
