ROCHESTER - A Lebanon, Maine, man has been arrested in connection with the discharge of a handgun during a fight at the American Legion last month.

Robert C. Talbot, listed as Post 7 commander on the club's website, turned himself in to Rochester Police on Friday around 2:10 p.m. upon learning that an arrest warrant had been issued, police say.

Talbot, 50, of 380 Lower Guinea Road, was charged with one count of reckless conduct, a Class B felony, for allegedly firing one round from a Smith & Wesson 9 mm into the ground after the scuffle had moved outside.

He was released on personal recognizance pending an arraignment later this month in Strafford County Superior Court.

Talbot was one of several people involved in the altercation at the Legion on Sept. 27, according to police.

The incident was called into police a little before 11 p.m., after a fight between two male members that had begun inside moved outside, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said Monday.

Once outside a female also became involved in some type of altercation as well, police said.

One round from a Smith and Wesson 9 mm was fired into the ground, Thomas said.

In all, four or five individuals were involved in the incident, he added.

The female involved in the scuffle outside was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for treatment of a possible head injury.

The case is still active and ongoing, and other individuals will likely be charged, Thomas said on Friday.

Maybe this guy actually got the situation under control. Don't rush to judgement.
