DOVER - The case of a Lebanon teenager charged with sexual assault of a 14-year-old Dover girl looks like it's headed to trial.

Agostino R. Dimambro, 19, of 150 New Bridge Road, was charged on May 27 with attempted sexual assault and sexual assault, both Class A misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in county jail.

Dover Police Lt. Brant Dolleman said in June police began their investigation in January after an individual reported to them that a crime may have been committed.

He said the suspect was acquainted with the alleged victim but not related to her.

Dolleman said he believed there were only two incidents of such contact, one in December and one in January. Both incidents occurred in Dover, according to police.

Dimambro reported to Dover Police headquarters to be booked on the morning of May 27 after criminal charges were filed by the Strafford County Attorney's Office in Strafford County Superior Court.

Dimambro pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $5,000 personal recognizance. He was back in Strafford County Superior Court this week for a dispositional conference.

Dolleman noted that the charges are for sexual assault, not rape, for Dimambro allegedly touching the girl on one occasion and attempting to touch her on another occasion.

He said if the alleged victim had been less than 13, the charge would have likely been a felony, not a misdemeanor.

Assistant County Attorney Emily Conant said on Thursday that a trial date had not yet been set. She added that a plea agreement would be offered Dimambro prior to trial.
