LEBANON, Maine - A Lebanon woman indicted in October on drug possession charges was arrested on a slew of traffic related violations and misdemeanors on Thursday in connection with a November incident that began with a traffic stop on the Spaulding Turnpike in Rochester, N.H.

The traffic stop unfolded on Nov. 9 when Leah Costales, 30, of 187 Goding Road, passed a northbound Rochester Police Officer who knew her license to be under suspension.

After he confirmed it was under suspension, he pulled her over, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said today.

Thomas said Costales insisted her license had been reinstated and asked if she could have a relative send proof to her smartphone, so Officer Brendan Bentz waited in his cruiser while she made the call.

"Then she revved up the engine and took off," Thomas said.

As Bentz followed her on the Spaulding she got off at Exit 16 and headed toward East Rochester on Route 202, oftentimes driving dangerously, Thomas said.

"He tried stopping her again, but she failed to stop so Officer Bentz discontinued the pursuit for safety sake," Thomas said.

Police finally caught up with Costales on Thursday night after a person at a Highland Street address called police to let them know a person they were looking for was there.

When they arrived at the Highland Street address they were allowed in and found Costales hiding in a bedroom closet where she was arrested without further incident, Thomas said.

Her most serious charge as a result of the incident is for disobeying a police officer, which is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

The other charges are mostly violations including, driving after suspension, speeding (existing conditions), unlawful passing on right, yellow line/solid line violation, two counts of reckless operation, and following to closely.

Her indictment on drug possession charges alleges she was found to have a quantity of fentanyl in her possession on Aug. 7 in Rochester.
