ROCHESTER - Leo A. Huppe died peacefully at home on October 20, 2021 at the age of 96.

Leo was born in Laconia on February 25, 1925, the son of Gideon and Amelia (Gagne) Huppe.

He spent his early years in Laconia and Lowell, Mass., and has lived most of his life in Rochester. A veteran of World War II, Leo was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 having served in the Asiatic Pacific. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was self-employed working as a carpenter and general contractor before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement. In his early years he enjoyed his large vegetable garden which also included strawberries and blueberries. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. Throughout his life he was a self-taught craftsman. He was a loving and caring man who enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Armand, Marcel and Roland Huppe.

He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Evelyn (Stuart) Huppe, one sister Estelle Talon of Rochester, his daughter Cynthia and husband Alfred Benton of Rochester, his grandchildren Bonnie Noyes of Exeter, James Benton (Jane) of Rochester, Jennifer Cote (Steve) of Milton Mills, and Jonathan Benton (Sheila) of Rochester. Eight great grandchildren, Aaron Benton, Joshua Noyes, Sean Benton, Jacob Benton, Janna Berry, Sarah Benton, Jessica Cote, and Liam Benton. Two great-great grandchildren Abraham Benton and Ella Benton.
