ROCHESTER - Leonard Strong Jr., 85, of 34 Punch Brook Way died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Hyder Hospice House in Dover after a period of failing health.
He was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Snowville, the son of Leonard and Dora (DeWitt) Strong. Leonard attended school in Berwick, Maine, then moved to Rochester in the seventh grade and graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1950. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant then upon release was in Washington State attending the University for one year for Engineering. Leonard met and married his wife Ruth in 1955. He worked as a tile mechanic for Merrimac Tile Company for 42 years.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler where he was "Bowlaway" Champ in men's speed league and the State's couples champ for the Grange League.
Members of his family include his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Erickson) Strong; son, Norman Strong and his children, Khristy, Jason, Jennifer, Noel; daughter, Melody Viel and her children, Dakota and Joshua; great grandchildren, Mia, Sierra, Kolin, Kolby and Riley; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Nason, Barbara Johnson and four infant daughters.
