ROCHESTER - Don't forget, the Library is back open on Saturdays. We look forward to seeing our patrons who can't make it in during the work week. Also, some good news from the Children's Room: Outdoor Story Times are coming back!

Let's Change the World, One Bouquet At A Time (with the RPL Friends)!

The Friends of the Rochester Public Library and Hannafords (on North Main Street and on Milton Road (next to Lilac Mall) are joining up to help out the RPL with bouquets of flowers! For every purchase of a $12 Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet with the red circle sticker, $1.00 will be donated to the Library. If you have been craving a beautiful bouquet to decorate your table, know someone who has a birthday or special event coming up, or have a friend who could use a bit of cheering up, every bouquet you buy helps the Library!

Young Adult Librarian

We are happy to announce that one of our long time Tech Services Librarians, Sarah, is now our new Young Adult Librarian. Sarah is a reader of YA literature and graphic novels and is happy to share her knowledge of that genre with teens needing help or suggestions for school or just titles that they might enjoy reading.

RPL Recommends Animated Videos

Main Desk Librarian (and syndicated cartoonist), Stephanie, and Main Desk Librarian, Karyl, have created a series of animated videos recommending books and DVDs and other items. See them on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Our latest one features music available on hoopla.

Children's Room

Fall Story Time: Children's Room Librarian, Christina, shares: "Starting the week of September 13th we will offer six weeks of Story Times outside on the lawn. No registration is required. Story Times will be Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m., where children will enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes. A small take home activity will be available. Story Time is appropriate for ages 2-6, but the whole family is welcome to attend.

We will make an announcement by 9:30 a.m. should a weather related cancelation be necessary. Watch our FB page & sign up for our email notifications at bit.ly/rplchnewsletter. Grass may be damp so don't forget a blanket or lawn chair!"

Story Time to Go will continue for those who prefer using our curbside service. Reserve a pre-packed bag with library books, a simple craft idea with directions, and a set of activities based on a certain theme by calling the Children's Room at 603-335-7549. These kits are geared for kids age 2 through 6. Themes include: Pirates, space, monsters and more. Please let us know which theme(s) you would like, and for what age range.

Squirrel with a Handprint Tail~ Take It & Make It Craft

Children's Room Librarian, Jenn, says: "Families can pick up a Squirrel kit beginning Saturday, September 11th through Saturday, September 18th or until they are gone, whichever happens first. Pick up times are during library open hours only. The kits will be inside the Children's Room entryway. Please remember to socially distance responsibly when picking up your kit. (One kit per child please.)

Please note that the library open hours are: Monday-Wednesday 9:00am to 8:00pm, Thursday-Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm. Appointments are only required for computer use."

Supply List: these are some basic supplies that you may need to complete the monthly projects. Many of them are probably things that are already in the home or easy to find. You may or may not be using every item listed.

Craft glue, white glue and/or a glue stick; scissors; transparent tape & masking tape (or washi tape); crayons; watercolor paints; acrylic/craft paints; assorted brushes;

Markers (washable); hot glue gun ( for ADULT use ONLY); white & assorted colored cardstock; construction paper; cardboard t.p. tube; black permanent marker

Library Card Sign Up Month

Don't forget that September is Library Card Sign Up Month! If you are a resident of Rochester, you can come in and get a free card. Just bring in proof of your address (recent mail, bill, or car registration) and a photo ID and you're on your way to enjoying all the books, DVDs, audiobooks and music the Library has to offer. Kids can get their first card at age 5! Spread the word and tell your friends, family and neighbors to come in and join the Library.

We all love hoopla at the Library. The content it offers is instant, no waiting! You can listen to audiobooks, read ebooks, listen to music or watch movies or TV shows on your phone, computer or laptop or smart TV. Plus, now you can even learn a new craft with Craftsy, which offers you step-by-step video instruction on a variety of creative crafts. hoopla's Instant collection now includes more than 140 hours of how-to instructional content from Craftsy courses in baking, cake decorating, knitting, quilting, and sewing.
