CONCORD - Gov. Chris Sununu on Thursday lifted the 14-day quarantine mandate on visitors from the five other New England states just in time for the long 4th of July holiday weekend.

The move to ease restrictions in New England comes as more than 30 other states around the country are seeing major spikes in COVID-19 cases.

But for whatever reason, New England is trending down nicely across the board, Sununu said, adding it gave him confidence to make the change.

The decision came as state health officials reported 21 new cases of the virus in New Hampshire, along with two new hospitalizations and two more deaths of seniors in New Hampshire nursing homes, a man and woman from Hillsborough County both 60 or over.

Current Situation in New Hampshire

NH Persons with COVID-19 5,822

Recovered 4,508 (77%)

Deaths Attributed to COVID-19 375 (6%)

Total Current COVID-19 Cases 939

Persons Who Have Been Hospitalized for COVID-19 567 (10%)

Current Hospitalizations 31

Persons Being Monitored in NH (approximate point in time) 3,475
