Terrie Collins, lead singer for the Big Picture, is looking to bring some joy to a neighborhood near you!
I really enjoyed a heart-to-heart conversation with local music dynamo Terrie Collins. We talked about music, the Covid pandemic and how it has affected the musicians on a local level.
Terrie consider herself a "Last Responder". While many people have returned to work, many musicians have not been able to. Restaurants and pubs that used to hire a musician for live entertainment may still be struggling themselves to get back to on solid financial ground.
Working musicians that actually counted on that income have generally been working for less money and for tips, if the establishment even allows it, and they are hurting.
Terrie who plays in a band also has a solo specialty that was really hurt by the pandemic, she entertains in nursing homes, which have not reopened their doors to her. So she has been reinventing herself and entertaining in parking lots and driveways just to make ends meet.
"The government has done very little to help me." said Collins "Covid took my job and I want it back. I want to be able to pay my bills again. I want to be able to go out and play with my band and make more than $2.50 an hour after expenses. The waitresses and bartenders are making more than the musicians most nights, especially if a venue does not allow us to put a tip jar out."
So please help out our hurting musician friends, catch a local show or two and be sure to tip the hardworking waitstaff and musicians!
