MILTON - The Great New Hampshire Pie Festival returns this weekend and it’s a sure bet pie lovers from all over the region will be eating it up.

Amateur area bakers are invited to compete for prizes in several categories, including apple, other fruit, nonfruit, such as nut; and savory, such as meat.

The festival is set for Sunday between noon and 4 p.m. at the New Hampshire Farm Museum on White Mountain Highway in Milton.

There is no cost to enter a pie, plus if you enter a pie you get free event admission, including tasting other pies.

Regular event admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Complete contest rules

REQUIREMENTS: Each entrant may submit only one pie. Pies must be entered by 11:30 am on Sunday. Be sure to put your name, address, phone number, and type of pie on the bottom of the dish (We usually just use a slip of paper and tape, after it is baked!). You don’t need to be present to win. If you are not present at the end of the judging, we will keep your dish until you pick it up.

Amateur pie makers can enter a pie in one of four categories: Apple, Other Fruit, Non-Fruit (Nut pies, etc), and Savory (Meat pies, etc.). Each pie entered allows one free admission to the event. Pies to be entered in the contest may be dropped off at the museum beginning Sunday at 10 am and must be received by 11:30 am. Pies become the property of the NH Farm Museum (pie plates will be returned!) and will be served to the attendees after the judging.

JUDGING: The judges will sample the pies and pick first, second, and third-place winners in the four categories. They will consider presentation, how the pie cuts, texture, and of course taste.

PRIZES: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded in each of the four categories. Prizes include trophy pie plates, gift certificates, aprons, cookbooks and more from Salmon Falls Pottery, King Arthur Flour of Vermont, and other local businesses.
