DOVER - A Maine man was arrested on Friday by Dover Police who a week ago had seized his car after getting a tip there might be drugs in it.
Inside the car police say they found 15 pounds of marijuana, 92 THC vape cartridges, wax, hard candies, and chocolates, all of which are believed to be infused with THC. Police also located and seized more than $23,000 in U.S. currency, which was in the vehicle and the suspect's possession.
Joshua Poissant, 32, of Arundel was charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, a class A felony punishable by to 15 years in state prison.
Police say they got a lead on the suspect on Jan. 10 when the department received information about a possible drug transaction occurring in the city.
Uniformed officers staged in the area and spotted Poissant driving on Back River Road. Upon sight of the officers, Poissant abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was located shortly thereafter attempting to persuade a nearby resident to let him inside their house. Poissant was arrested on site for criminal trespass, a misdemeanor. Officers then impounded his 2008 Honda Civic and detectives from the department's Special Investigations Unit later obtained a search warrant for the vehicle where they say the incriminating evidence was found.
Poissant surrendered at the police department Friday afternoon after learning the additional warrant had been executed. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Strafford County Superior Court later this month.
