KENNEBUNK, Maine - A Maine man was arrested for OUI and several other charges after leading New Hampshire and Maine State police on a high speed chase that began in New Hampshire and ended in the area of Kennebunk.
Maine State Police got involved around 1:05 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a call from the New Hampshire State Police requesting assistance in a high-speed pursuit involving a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Matthew Olsen, 44, of Harrison.
After seeing Olsen speeding and driving erratically, a local New Hampshire police officer attempted a traffic stop, but Olsen refused to stop, and during a portion of the chase he rammed a New Hampshire trooper's cruiser.
When Olsen entered Maine on Interstate 95 Maine troopers took over the pursuit, according to a Maine Dept. of Safety press release sent on Sunday. The chase continued northbound until Olsen drove over a curb at the Kennebunk Rest Area, damaging his tires before getting back onto I-95. Soon after troopers successfully disabled Olsen's truck using the Precision Immobilization Technique.
Olsen was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence, Eluding an Officer, Reckless Conduct, and Criminal Speed. As a precaution, he was taken to a local hospital before being transported to the York County Jail.
