Maine man arrested in blunt-force trauma death of toddler

OWLS HEAD, Maine - An Owls Head man was arrested in Louisiana on Wednesday in the death of a toddler earlier this month in Thomaston.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant on Tuesday for 23-year-old Aziayh Scott of Owls Head charging him with manslaughter in connection to the death of 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson that occurred May 29 at a Thomaston Walmart.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy on May 30 ruling the cause of death was blunt force trauma and manner of death was homicide.

Scott, who is originally from Louisiana, had recently moved to Maine and was living with his girlfriend and the child in Owls Head, according to a statement from Dept. of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss sent on Wednesday.

Detectives learned after going to the residence in Owls Head on Tuesday the couple had returned to Louisiana. After learning this information, Maine State Police Detectives coordinated with Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service Maine Violent Offender Task Force, and Scott was arrested Wednesday in New Orleans. Scott was taken to Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans. The process to extradite Scott back to Maine for the charge of Manslaughter will now begin.

Thomaston Police and Rescue responded to the Walmart in Thomaston on May 29 around 7:25 p.m. for a report of a child not breathing. The child was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.
